Nobody edits the subscriber list by hand.

Opt-ins, tag changes, and opt-outs land in MailPoet as the entry is saved. If the submitted address already belongs to a subscriber, the feed updates that subscriber instead of creating a second one, so the same form is also how people correct their own details.

Build the form around the MailPoet Lists field.

The MailPoet Connection adds a MailPoet Lists field that works in tandem with the feed, so the visitor picks the lists and the feed’s action decides whether those picks mean subscribe or unsubscribe. Configure it for a single list or for several, where several can mean every list, a set number of lists, or a range.

Get the right subscriber into the form.

For logged-in users, set the Email field’s default value to the {user:user_email} merge tag. For everyone else, send the link from MailPoet with its [subscriber:email] shortcode in the URL and read it back with the {get:param} merge tag, which the tags tutorial enables with a snippet from the Snippet Library.

Let one submission subscribe, tag, and unsubscribe.

Add a feed per action under the form’s Settings menu: Subscribe maps the email, name fields, tags, and MailPoet custom fields; Add Tag and Remove Tag match an existing subscriber by the mapped email; Unsubscribe takes only Lists and an Email Field. Put conditional logic on each one, so the unsubscribe feed runs only when someone checks the box confirming it, and the Add Tag feed runs only when they pick the plan that segment is for.

An active MailPoet plugin and account on the same site, plus GC MailPoet. MailPoet’s own plan and service requirements apply.
Feeds run on submission. A single entry’s feed can be reprocessed from the MailPoet meta box on that entry, and Feed Forge can bulk-process the feed for entries you already have. Add Tag and Remove Tag act only on subscribers who already exist in MailPoet.
Protect preference changes with an authenticated account or a verified subscriber link. Prefilling an email from a URL identifies a record; it does not prove permission to change it.

What has to be in place before the feeds show up?

On your existing MailPoet site, activate GC MailPoet through Spellbook. Keep your MailPoet plugin active so its feeds and fields appear, then add a feed under the form’s Settings menu.

What happens if someone submits the form twice?

If the submitted email matches an existing MailPoet subscriber, the Connection updates that subscriber with what was submitted rather than adding a second one. That is what makes this form usable as a preference center. Add Tag and Remove Tag are the exception to plan around: both act on subscribers who already exist.

Is this an official MailPoet integration?

Our list is in Drip, not MailPoet. Can we do this?

Partly. The Drip connection adds and updates people, adds and removes tags, and enrols them in workflows, so preference changes can move someone between segments — but it has no unsubscribe action the way MailPoet does.
