Gravity Forms 2.8: Compact View

The Gravity Forms team is ending the year with a bang! 

Gravity Forms 2.8 arrived last week, introducing a streamlined editing experience called “Compact View”. If you’re working with big, long forms, Compact View can dramatically improve the form editing experience, making it much easier to add new fields where you want them, find/edit specific fields, and configure your form layout.

Worth noting, if your forms are large enough to benefit from Compact View, there’s a good chance the users completing that form would benefit from Multi-page Form Navigation. It makes traversing long forms and correcting input errors so much easier.

Gravity Forms 2.8 removes a JavaScript function that was a popular inclusion in many perks and snippets. We’ve already done the legwork and shipped updated versions of all the things. For perks, updates are available directly in your WordPress admin. For snippets, see the list of affected snippets here and manually update to the latest version.

Unplanned Upgrades: GP Inventory

Easy, flexible inventory management for Gravity Forms.

While we always have big goals for each quarter, we leave lots of room for spontaneous, customer-driven enhancements to our suite. This week, GP Inventory just happened to be the lucky recipient of several impromptu improvements.

First, we’ve added support for using scoped inventory with GS Product Configurator. You can now create WooCommerce products with options that are inventoried and scoped by dates, times, or any other field value!

Next, remaining inventory will now display for choices when editing an entry in the Gravity Forms’ admin. This will make it a lot easier for admins to not accidentally overbook an event or oversell a product.

Lastly, we’ve improved the performance of choice-based inventories by implementing object caching. Y’all always go harder than we expect but we’re here for it. 🤘

New Resources

GP Unique ID | Sequence by Prefix

The work we did in GP Unique ID v1.5 made this snippet possible! What does it do? It lets you create unique sequences based on field values using the Prefix field setting. 

For example, if you have a Drop Down field where the user can select A, B, or C, and you set the prefix of your Unique ID field to the value of your Drop Down field, this snippet will then treat each value as a unique sequence (e.g. A00001, A00002, B00001, A00003, B00002, etc).

Oldie but a Goodie | Post Permalink Merge Tag

If you’re creating posts with Gravity Forms, you may want to share a link to the generated post using its permalink in the confirmation or a notification. This snippet-plugin provides the perfect merge tag: {post_permalink}.
