Ask only for the shots that job needs

The request starts with what kind of work it is, and conditional logic shows the upload fields that go with it — a roof wants the elevation and the ridge, a bathroom wants the whole room and the pipework.

Check the photo while they are still on the form

Each field becomes a drag-and-drop uploader with thumbnails, and file type and size are checked as the photo lands, so a wrong file is caught before the submit button. A HEIC photo off an iPhone becomes a JPG on the way in.

Hold every photo to the same shape

Require a crop with your aspect ratio or a minimum size and the subject ends up in the frame. The original is kept, so a bad crop is re-cropped rather than re-uploaded.

Before you start

File Upload Pro is switched on per File Upload field, and that field's Multiple Files setting has to be on — set the number of files to 1 where you only want one.
Your own photo rules: the file types you accept, a maximum size and count, and the dimensions or aspect ratio a crop has to meet.
An upload limit on the server high enough for the photos you are asking for. Your site and host set that ceiling, not the perk.

Will a photo straight off someone's phone work?

Yes. HEIC files from an iPhone are converted to JPG in the browser before the entry is created, and images are auto-rotated so a portrait shot does not arrive on its side. Animated GIFs are the exception: they upload, but they cannot be cropped.

Can it make sure they photograph the right thing?

Nothing here judges what is in the picture. What it does is make a wrong photo obvious to the person sending it — they see the thumbnail, and requiring a crop makes them look at the image before it goes. If the photo has to be taken on the spot rather than pulled from the camera roll, that is our free camera-capture snippet, not a setting.
