GWW 295: Enriched Entries

New modifiers for Email Validator, how to enrich Gravity Forms entries with CRM data, and learn more about Advanced Merge Tags and the Flask of Base64!

Greetings, wizards!

We’re so freaking close to releasing GP Bookings Beta 1. You know what the blocker is? This darned introduction video! 😆

I’m really struggling to find the right balance between inspirational and instructional. I want folks to get a sense of its wildest potential but also understand how it works in a practical way. Any product video experts out there? HMU. 🤙

In the meantime, we’ve got plenty of other wizardry to whet your whistles this week.

Top Picks: Product Highlights

GP Email Validator
Level up your Email fields with automatic email address and domain validation.

We’ve added two new modifiers that you can append to your Email fields. First, :gpev_status will give you the validation status of the provided email (e.g., Valid, Invalid, Risky, etc). Second, :gpev_technical_details will give you all the dirty details of the validation result.

This is useful if you want to send along some extra details about the submitted email address in an admin notification or capture it in an API request.

GP Populate Anything
Dynamically populate fields, labels, and choices with posts, users, entries, and more.

In sites with complex or dynamically generated user roles, it’s often impractical to filter users by an exact role match.

Populate Anything now supports the “contains” and “does not contain” operators allowing you to populate users based on role patterns—such as including all roles that contain “applicant”—making user population more flexible, scalable, and future-proof as roles evolve.

GF Progress Meter
Motivate your audience with a goal-tracking progress meter.

This is a tasty one! Our free Progress Meter plugin now supports displaying progress as a donut chart. Your audience will be dying to take a bite out of this one. 🤤

API Alchemist: Enrich Gravity Forms Entries with CRM Data

Stop pushing data to your CRM—start pulling it back. 🙃

Dan the Scrollslinger shows you how to flesh out your Gravity Forms entries with CRM data so returning leads only enter an email, while the rest is quietly enriched behind the scenes. Less friction, smarter forms, better data. Click through to see how GC API Alchemist makes it happen.

A user enters an email address in the email field on the front end and views the entry on the backend, with the rest of the contact details filled in.

Advanced Merge Tags: And the Flask of Base64

We had an interesting request come through support. A customer was using API Alchemist and needed to send a submitted file to their API service. The API expected a base64-encoded file—not a URL and not a multipart upload.

To solve this, we added a new :base64 modifier to our growing Advanced Merge Tags plugin. It can be used with nearly any merge tag, but it works a little differently for File Upload fields. Instead of encoding the file URL, it encodes the actual contents of the file, allowing files to be sent directly in API requests.

Yes, there are some caveats. We only recommend this approach for low-traffic forms with small uploads (roughly 5–10MB). You’ll also want to confirm that the API you’re working with explicitly supports receiving base64-encoded files.
