GWW 327: Retreat Yourself

GP Bookings learns to say no (politely). Plus, PKCE for API Alchemist, transparent AI images, and what 100 conditional logic tickets taught us.

Greetings, wizards!

Whoa! This year’s retreat was so good. 🙌

I was trying to do a little summary here but I don’t think I can say it any better than I did directly to the team in Slack:

Now let me show you what this legendary team was up to between long flights, good food, and ring-free fellowship. 🧙‍♂️

P.S. I’ve shared a few photos from our adventures below!

GP Bookings: Deny, Cancel, & Route

GP Bookings is quickly becoming one of our flagship products. We set out to build a booking platform that was ridiculously flexible and sorcerously extensible. Y’all are helping us confirm we’re doing just that every day.

We’ve packed a lot of good stuff into a humble version number (1.0.6). Probably should have shipped this as 1.1. 😆

  • Say no, nicely. Deny a booking request before it’s approved with the new Denied status — complete with its own Booking Denied notification event.
  • Explain why. Capture a reason when staff denies or cancels a booking, then drop it right into notifications with {gpb_denial_reason} and {gpb_cancellation_reason}.
  • Route it right. Send notifications to the right person based on the Service, Resource, Occupancy, or Booking Time selected.
  • Set your own rules. Customize when bookings can be rescheduled or cancelled with the new gpb_booking_operation_restrictions filter.

Top Picks: Product Updates

GC OpenAI
✦ Enhance your forms with the magic of AI — text, images, audio, and more!

The OpenAI Image field can now generate images with transparent backgrounds — perfect for logos, stickers, product cutouts, or anything else you want to drop cleanly into your own design. It’s supported by the GPT Image 2.5 models, and we’ve added two new ones to the lineup: Flare and Sunburst. ☀️

GC API Alchemist
✦ Connect Gravity Forms to any API — push, pull, and populate live data.

OAuth 2.0 connection profiles now support PKCE (Proof Key for Code Exchange — pronounced “pixie,” which fits us just right 🧚).

Basically, PKCE makes the OAuth handshake more secure by ensuring an authorization code can only be used by the client that requested it. Some APIs flat-out require it — X, Airtable, and Etsy among them — and it’s baked into OAuth 2.1, so expect to see it more and more.

GP Popups
✦ Turn your forms into smart, targeted popups.

The new Rendering Method setting lets you skip iframe-based loading entirely, while the new On Page Load trigger shows your popup the moment the page loads.

Together, they’re now powering our Blueprint Banner on GravityWiz.com. Refresh this page a few times and see how fast it loads!

We also added an “Edit Form” link to popup feed settings — a personal pet peeve of mine when working with popups on our own site, now banished. 🪄

Answered: Are you using Gravity MCP yet?

Pretty wild how split the results are here. I’m not entirely surprised that most of you aren’t using Gravity MCP yet, but it’s good to know a solid chunk of you are interested in trying it on for size.

We’ve got some cool stuff coming that might help you get started. 😉

Article: We Reviewed 100 Conditional Logic Support Tickets

Most of what we publish teaches you how to do something. This one’s a little different.

Dan dug through 100 of our conditional logic support tickets to see what keeps tripping people up — from needing AND/OR together (18% of tickets), to logic chains breaking across pages (14%), to one form with over 1,300 conditional fields. 🥲

The twist? A good number of those “limitations” weren’t actually limitations at all.

✦ Sorcerous Snippets

We add new snippets (and updates) to our Snippet Library every week — ready-made solutions that often beat prompting AI, or at least give you a solid head start on your next vibe-coded build.

—

GP Popups: Allow Top-Window Navigation
Let links inside your popups navigate the whole page instead of getting stuck inside the popup. Enable it for every popup or just the ones you choose.

GS Product Configurator: Bypass Checkout for Zero-Value Products
Skip the cart and checkout entirely when a configured product is free and doesn’t need shipping. The order is created on the spot and your customer lands on a confirmation page — great for free samples, RSVPs, and quote requests.

GP Bookings: Disable Automatic Booking Completed Notifications
Stop Booking Completed notifications from going out automatically when a booking ends. They’ll still send when you manually mark a booking as completed.

  • Fixed a fatal error that could occur when submitting a form with Gravity Forms Stripe 7.0.

  • Added protection for Gravity Forms Save and Continue requests, allowing Spam Hexer to block automated spam drafts before they are stored.

Spellbook (v3.0.31)

  • Fixed an issue where the separator above the Spellbook menu item pushed the next top-level admin menu item out of alignment when no item appeared below Gravity Forms’ Help item in the Forms menu.

  • Improved plugins page performance when Spellbook is active.
