New: Address Autocomplete 2.0
Calculate distance and travel time between two addresses, map the route between them, and connect to Google’s new Places API.
Since exactly five years ago, Address Autocomplete has saved thousands of Gravity Forms users time by letting people type three characters and get their full address back.
Today it takes it further by figuring out what’s between two addresses, allowing you to build pricing and routing logic around travel estimates.

Address Autocomplete in a nutshell
If you’re not familiar with Address Autocomplete, here’s a summary:
- Simplify address entry with searchable addresses. Add your Google API key, check one box on the field, and Google-powered suggestions are live.
- Display addresses and routes on an interactive map. The Map field drops a pin on the entered address and moves it as the address changes.
- Autocomplete addresses across the globe. US and international Address fields all populate with perfect formatting, on desktop and mobile alike.
- Limit suggestions to the countries you serve. No need to show Brazilian addresses if your operation is in the US, and vice-versa.
- Capture latitude and longitude details, available via merge tag.
What’s new in 2.0
Need to know how far or how long it takes to get from one address to another?
The new Travel Estimate field calculates distance and travel time using Google’s Routes API. Choose the origin and destination fields, select a travel mode, and decide whether you want distance, time, or both.
The results are available in conditional logic and calculations, plus via merge tags for dynamic population, notifications, confirmations, feeds, and more.
A few ideas of what you can do:
- Add a delivery fee based on distance.
- Show customers an estimated travel time.
- Calculate mileage for reimbursements.
- Route service requests to the nearest provider.
- Price services based on how far a customer is traveling.
The Map field now maps routes, too. Its new Source setting lets you point the field at either an Address field, as before, or a Travel Estimate field — in which case the map draws the full route between the origin and destination.
What this means:
- The route behind a distance-based price is visible instead of implied.
- Customers can spot a wrong pin — or a wrong turn — before they submit.
Support for the Places API (New), Google’s current-generation Places endpoint. If you’re already using Address Autocomplete, enable it in Google Cloud Platform at the same time you enable the Routes API for Travel Estimate fields.
